Under the patronage of the Minister of Health, H.E. Fahad Abdulrahman AlJalajel, the Saudi Patient Safety Center honored the winners of the 8th National 
Patient Safety Award during a forum organized by the Center to celebrate pioneering projects that have contributed to enhancing patient safety and improving the quality of healthcare.
In his speech, the Minister of Health emphasized the significance of the innovative initiatives presented by national talents and healthcare institutions, noting that they embody a culture of innovation and excellence while reflecting the healthcare sector’s commitment to advancing patient safety practices and improving the quality of healthcare services. He highlighted that these achievements are supported by the Kingdom’s wise leadership and enabled by
Saudi Vision 2030, which has contributed to building a more innovative, efficient, and sustainable healthcare system.
The National Patient Safety Award is one of the leading national initiatives spearheaded by the
Saudi Patient Safety Center. It has evolved into a national platform that encourages innovation, facilitates knowledge exchange, and promotes best practices in support of the Health Sector Transformation Program.
The eighth edition attracted significant participation, receiving more than 3,000 projects competing across 10 categories. The submissions were evaluated by 36 local and international experts, culminating in the selection of nine winning projects that demonstrated diverse initiatives, a high level of innovation, and a growing culture of continuous improvement in patient safety.
During the forum, winners were recognized across the various award categories. Armed Forces Hospital Southern Region won the Students and Researchers category, King Fahad Military Medical Complex in Dhahran received the Patient Engagement for Safety Award, King Khalid Hospital in Najran won the Medication Safety category, and Care Medical Hospital – Al Malaz was recognized in the Patient Safety Training category.
In the General Patient Safety category, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre – Jeddah, along with the Nursing Department of the Health Services of the Ministry of Defense, were honored. King Faisal Medical Complex in Taif won the Infection Prevention and Control in Healthcare Facilities category, Jeddah Second Health Cluster received the Leadership in Patient Safety Award, and King Saud Medical City was recognized in the Emotional Safety category.
During the forum, Dr. Ali bin Talea Al-Assiri, Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi Patient Safety Center, announced the launch of the ninth edition of the award, with applications set to open in October. The new edition aims to continue fostering excellence and innovation while supporting initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes in reducing mortality and patient harm, and expanding the adoption of safe practices across the healthcare system.
The launch of the ninth edition reflects the award’s ongoing role in promoting a culture of patient safety, advancing healthcare practices, and expanding successful initiatives, ultimately contributing to a more efficient, higher-quality, and sustainable healthcare system in line with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program.
