MOH: 1,644 New COVID-19 Cases Reported, Rapid Escalation in Virus Spread

​​According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), 1,644 new confirmed cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in the Kingdom; thus bringing the total number to 80,185 cases, including 25,191 active cases, receiving the medical care they may need. Of these, there are 419 critical cases, while the health condition of the rest is stable. Also, 3,531 cases have been recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 54,553 cases, All praise is due to Allah.

“The new confirmed cases reported today include 42% Saudi citizens and 58% non-Saudi residents. About 26% of the cases are females, and 74% are males. Only 5% of the reported cases are older persons, 12% are children, and 83% are adults,” MOH stated.

Besides, these new cases reported in the Kingdom were distributed as follows: 611 in Riyadh, 360 in Jeddah, 148 in Makkah, 101 in Dammam, 91 in Hofuf, 50 in Madinah, 46 in Khobar, 25 in Dhahran, 22 in Taif, 20 in Hail, 17 in Al-Mubarraz, 17 in Jubail, 16 in Tabuk, 15 in Khulais, 13 in Al-Qatif, 13 in Abqaiq, 8 in Ras Tanura, 8 in Al-Sharif, 5 in Al-Jafr, 5 in Najran, 4 in Buraidah, 4 in Khamis Mushayt, 4 in Al-Kharj, 3 in Baish, 2 in Al-Ayes, 2 in Yanbu, 2 in Al-Qurayyat, 2 in Al-Madha, 2 in Al-Namas, 2 in Al-Khafji, 2 in Safwa, 2 in Jazan, 2 in Arar, in addition to one case in each of Khaybar, Al-Rass, Oyoun Al-Jawa, Unaizah, Al-Mudhafaz, Al-Qunfudhah, Al-Hada, Raniah, Abha, Al-MaJardah, Ahad Rufaida, Al-Nairiya, Hafar Al-Batin, Al-Ghazala, Al-Twal, Fayfaa, Sabya, Sharurah, Al-Dalam, and Al-Majmaah.

Moreover, 16 new deaths have been reported; bringing the total deaths to 441. The new deaths include a 51-year old Saudi citizen in Jeddah, and 15 non-Saudi residents in Makkah, Jeddah, Madinah, Jazan, Dammam, Al-Khobar, aged 30-68 years old and most of them were suffering chronic diseases; thus bringing the total deaths to 0.55%, while recoveries amounted to 68%.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide has jumped to 5,716,570 cases, of which 2,367,292 cases have recovered to date. As for the COVID-19 death toll, it has jumped to 356,124. 

Regarding the lab tests in the Kingdom, new 16,428 lab tests have been conducted, bringing the total tests to date to 770,696.

MOH called on all people to frequently wash hands with soap and water, as it is the most important way to prevent Coronavirus, and to cover the mouth and nose with a cloth mask when going out in public. MOH also reiterated that the virus is very dangerous and rapidly spreading, and that the infection transmits from one to another regardless of age, but older persons and those with respiratory or chronic diseases are most vulnerable to infection.
