The world dedicates the month of May every year for the awareness of skin cancer, which is one of the most common types of cancer.
Objectives:
- Increasing awareness of early screening for skin cancer.
- Disseminating information and facts about skin cancer.
- Educating people on ways to prevent skin cancer.
Facts:
- Skin cancers are mainly caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight or artificial sources such as sun beds.
- More than 1.5 million cases of skin cancer were diagnosed globally in 2020 and more than 120,000 deaths from skin cancer were reported.
- Excessive exposure of children and adolescents to sunlight helps spread of skin cancer in later stages of their lives.
