Overview:
The International Universal Health Coverage Day aims to raise awareness of the need for strong, resilient health systems and action towards universal health coverage. Every year on 12 December, UHC advocates raise their voices to share the stories of the millions who still wait for health services, champion their achievements so far, call on leaders to invest more and brighter in health, and encourage diverse groups to make commitments that will help move the world closer to achieving universal health coverage by 2030.
Objectives:
- Raising awareness of the need for strong, resilient health systems and universal health coverage with multi-stakeholder partners.
- Recognizing and celebrating progress towards universal health coverage worldwide.
- Raising awareness of the need for increased investment from governments to build a sustainable, resilient health system that can provide lifelong, high-quality, affordable, participatory primary health care for all.
- Emphasizing that now is the time to re-prioritize universal health coverage, and for health systems to work, they must work for everyone.
Facts:
- Equitable health coverage puts women, children, adolescents, and the most vulnerable first, because they face the most significant barriers to providing essential care.
