World Mental Health Day

​​​​Overview:
Mental health is a fundamental human right guaranteed to all. Everyone, everyone and everywhere, has the right to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of mental health.
Good mental health is vital to our overall health and well-being. Yet, one in eight people in the world live with a mental health condition, which can affect their physical health, well-being, how they relate to others, and their livelihoods. Mental health conditions also affect a growing number of adolescents and young people.

Facts:

  • Mental health problems are a major cause of the increasing burden of disease worldwide.
  • Mental and behavioral health problems such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse are the leading drivers of disability worldwide, accounting for more than 40 million people aged 20 to 29 years with disabilities.
  • Practicing physical activity and relaxation exercises, avoiding stress, accompanying positive people, and seeking help when needed, enhances mental health and improves quality of life.

Objectives:

  • Raising awareness of mental health problems around the world.
  • Dedicating and activating efforts to support mental health and reduce societal stigma.
  • Directing more attention to health issues and mental health problems.
