Overview on the Program
Due to the need of the Ministry of Health (MOH) to support sections of the prevention medicine along with their different departments and health regions with Saudi qualified cadres trained in an advanced way on the field of epidemic detection and their control, and to contribute to developing the prevention programs for the infectious and non-infectious diseases, the idea of launching a program for post-graduate studies on epidemiology came into being in 1409h. Thus, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and King Saud University in Riyadh initiated the Field Epidemiology Training Program, now affiliated to the MOH Public Health Agency. So far, the program produced 23 graduate batches of the field epidemiology diploma. The last batch, the twenty-third batch, included seven physicians. And 20 trainers were graduated. Currently, the total number of graduates reached 130 ones, working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's different health regions. Of which there are eight graduates from the Omani Ministry of Health. Further, the door is open for admitting one physician for each batch from the brotherly Arab Gulf States.
