Urgent Intervention Saves Life of a Girl in Jeddah

Neurologists in Jeddah governorate successfully conducted an urgent surgical intervention that contributed to saving the life of a twenty-year-old girl after a terrible traffic accident that took 5 hours in the operating room, all praises be to Allah.

Jeddah Health stated that King Fahd Hospital (KFH) in the governorate received an urgent notification from one of the governorate hospitals on an emergency and urgent life-saving case that requires intervention in precise specialties. An acute fracture dislocation of the fourth and fifth neck vertebrae, which may result in severe shortness of breath and immobility in all four limbs together.

And Jeddah Health indicated that the medical team treating the case immediately decided to admit the patient to the operations theater and perform an urgent surgical intervention in which a structural neck lift was performed and the cervical dislocation was surgically re-dislocated, as well as fixation of the fracture and damaged vertebrae with devices and tools for brain surgery operations and Nerves, and the removal of severe pressure on the spinal cord, and also the liberation of the spinal cord was performed using a microscope and a guided surgical navigation device, which is dedicated to microsurgery of the brain and nerves.

Jeddah Health added that after the operation, the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit due to seriousness of the condition and the need for close follow-up by the medical staff until the condition finds a noticeable and continuous improvement. Praise be to Allah, the patient is gradually recovering and is constantly improving. 

It is worth noting that saving the life of the case was contributed by a number of rare and delicate specialties that performed the operation, including surgical medical specialties, neurosurgeons, anesthesia, nursing and rehabilitation doctors.

It is noteworthy that King Fahd Hospital performed 150 surgeries in various medical specialties within a week from the 8th to the 14th of January this year 2023.​
