A medical team was able to remove a tumor weighing more than 700 grams in the abdomen of a 4-year-old girl, during a very successful surgery that took 3 hours.
Makkah Healthcare Cluster indicated that a medical team at the Maternity and Children Hospital in Makkah Al-Mukarramah conducted an urgent therapeutic intervention to remove a tumor from the abdominal area of the child who was suffering from a huge enlargement, after conducting clinical, laboratory and radiological examinations that showed the presence of a huge mass of up to 750 grams in the kidney. The treating medical team decided to determine the treatment plan for the child and prepare for the operation with the participation of the Department of Pediatric Surgery, the Department of Oncology, Anesthesia, Radiology, the Laboratory, the Blood Bank, and the Intensive Care Unit. They completely removed the tumor with control of the arteries and veins. The surgery was very successful, praise be to Allah.
The medical team treating the case indicated that the operation is rare and difficult at the same time, because the size of the tumor in relation to the weight of the child constitutes a challenge and a great danger at the same time, in addition to the presence of the tumor in a very sensitive area because it is very close to the main venous artery and requires precision during surgery and treatment of this case.
The medical team indicated that the child was transferred to the inpatient departments, so that the case is followed up until all vital signs stabilize and she comes out, Allah willing, with a complete recovery.
