MOH Efforts in Handling Al Hammadi Hospital Fire in Riyadh

The Emergency Department Operations Room at Riyadh Health Affairs General Directorate has received at 04:25 P.M. on Sunday 07\02\2016 (corresponding to 28\04\1437) a notification from the Red Crescent Operations of a fire in the outpatient building at Al Hammadi Hospital (Olaya Branch). The fire was due to an electrical short circuit in the basement floor close to electric generators. The state of emergency has been declared immediately, and five medical teams were sent in ambulances the incident location, that is to be added to 12 extra teams, that were ready for support when needed. Meanwhile, the hospitals in Riyadh were notified about the state of emergency in order to be ready for receiving cases, as followed in such events.
 
The number of inpatient cases in the hospital has reached 97 patients, 18 of them are at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). These patients were immediately evacuated by the Red Crescent teams to the nearest hospital, according to regulations. Because of being critical cases, the patients were referred to the nearest hospital to the incident, as follows:
  • 8 cases to Al Habib Hospital (Olaya Branch).
  • 7 cases to Al-Mishari Hospital.
  • 3 cases to Dallah Hospital.
  • 59 of inpatient cases at awards were referred to Al Hammadi Hospital (Al-Suwaidi Branch).
  • 20 stable cases were discharged to their homes with their families.
