World Environment Day is held on June 5 annually, and it is one of the main means through which the United Nations (UN) enhances the international awareness about the environment and its issues. Further, marking this Day, the UN seeks to shed more light on the environmental issues, and urge a political action to that effect.
The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) announced that the theme of this year's World Environment Day will be "the small island developing states" or "SIDS". That's to say, these island states, all over the world, are particularly vulnerable to climate change, natural disasters and sea level rise.
This year's World Environment Day aims to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on the small island states all over the world, as well as displaying the solutions that help these island states to overcome a number of environmental problems with only limited resources.
