“Healthy Heart Beat-Healthy Blood Pressure”
 
Introduction:
Hypertension is resulted from force (pressure) that blood exerts on the walls of the blood vessels as the heart pumps blood through the body. Blood pressure rate may be higher than normal causing hypertension. The incidence of arterial hypertension affects all societies and races, men or women, young or old. The incidence of hypertension varies from one community to another.

World Hypertension Day is celebrated every year on the 17th of May, under the theme “Healthy Heart Beat-Healthy Blood Pressure”, aiming to raise awareness among the community about the preventative methods of hypertension and how to control it; seeking to detect the number of hypertension cases and monitor them.

Hypertension Is a Global Epidemic!
It is estimated that 9.4 million die every year; and 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension.

Locally, According to the National Survey conducted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on a random sample (form 15 to 64 years), hypertension increased by 21.1% (24.1% in males, and 18.3% in females).
