27 March 2017
The Ophthalmology Center at Dammam Medical Complex has successfully conducted, for the first time, a number of 20 surgeries over the first month since launching the technique of “Injection into Vitreous Body” for the treatment of patients with diabetic retinopathy and other common retinal diseases that usually cause visual impairment and blindness in some cases.

The Eastern Region Health Affairs General Directorate has pointed out the Ophthalmology Center at Dammam Medical Complex has commenced to conduct such surgeries for those people suffering from various retinal disorders. Besides, the center works by leaps and bounds to provide modern and advanced medical services, in line with the global medical progress for the patient benefit. This new technique contributed to significant progress in the treatment of retinal degeneration, caused by retinal aging that is accompanied by blood vessels under the center of vision, by the injection of antibodies into the vitreous body to absorb the leak, and stopping the growth of abnormal blood vessels in the center of vision.

It is worth mentioning that this new technique is reckoned a great scientific leap in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy in all its forms, as it effectively helps to stop the blood vessels that are associated with growing diabetes. This matter contributes to the increased effectiveness and results of laser treatment after injection and reduces the risk of bleeding during treatment; which lead to the treatment completion safely.
